A good MC can make or break an event.
And these days, a great Conference Facilitator does a lot more than just introduce and thank speakers with a bit of humour thrown in.
An outstanding conference facilitator can deliver keynotes, run breakout workshops, provide comedy and even facilitate such complex beasts as hypotheticals.
Andrew does all of these things.
You may like to ask your Conference Facilitator if they can offer all of these things:
Consultation. They’re available for insights, wisdom and creative ideas in the design process to help make your programme fresh, sophisticated, fun, functional, fruity or all of the above.
Research. The facilitator will research your field, profession or industry – and the conference speakers – and understand how it all fits together.
Passion. The facilitator does this because they love it. They immerse themselves in your event and put themselves in service to the whole thing.
Awareness. The facilitator watches everyone – the audience, the speakers, the event manager, the AV crew, the client, the venue manager – they know what’s happening and how to support it.
Humour. Some pre-written but mostly improvised. Often irreverent but always corporate and appropriate. And plenty of it.
Cover. What happens if lunch isn’t ready? A speaker doesn’t show? The Powerpoint fails? The mic cuts out? Your facilitator needs to be present, creative and flexible. It helps if they are a keynote speaker as well as an MC so they can literally provide a stunning keynote to fill a spot if that is needed.
Theme-weaver. Keynote speakers usually arrive, speak and leave. Only the Conference Facilitator is there from beginning to end and can effectively weave together all of the themes of the different presentations to give the conference a sense of cohesion and completion.
*Experience. Not only should the facilitator have the experience of a thousand conferences, they should have A) Their own experience in enterprise, B) Experience working with every different possible group of people.
Andrew is our man on stage! The audience feels that their MC understands them, knows what they’re thinking and feeling and what they need. We trust him, we like him, we can rely on him. He’s our guy up there.
Substance. As a conference facilitator, Andrew doesn’t just get a few laughs and make people feel good, he presents content and substance. In addition to facilitating your entire conference, Andrew offers opening or closing keynotes, break-out workshops and a brilliant performance of his satirical character “Mick the Demotivational Speaker”. He doesn’t just offer it, he insists! Andrew will only facilitate conferences for which he can also present a keynote or workshop or as “Mick”.

Please accept my sincere thanks for the role you played ensuring that our Super Liquor Conference was another great success. There are only a few professionals who can accomplish being the Master of Ceremonies, a presenter and a facilitator to ensure that our open panel session achieved our goals. The team building exercise that you thought up and put together was fantastic and just what I was looking for. You are a professional with a relaxed style who has the ability to keep the conference working smoothly and to the timetable. The feedback has been all very positive so thank you for participating and playing a big part in our conference. It was just great working with you again.
Super Liquor, NZ
“Thank you for the incredible job you did as Master of Ceremonies. Indeed according to the Evaluation Forms you were the highlight of the conference! What none of the delegates would have noticed was the behind the scenes work, your relaxed way of taking on all of the announcements, keeping the overall program running to time and ensuring that we moved over 450 through the short breaks efficiently. It certainly is a skill. Unlike the rest of us, you stayed calm and helped us to relax knowing that we were in good hands. From the delegates’ point of view, they enjoyed your style and humour. Who else could get through all those house-keeping notices and still keep everyone’s attention? In fact, they looked forward to them! I hope that I will be able to work with you again.”
State NRM Conference, Denmark 2005
“95% of delegates rated your performance as excellent. To provide some context, the next most popular keynote presenter rated at 52% excellent and 38% good … One delegate, who in the course of his work attends many conferences in Australia and overseas, stated that your performance as MC was easily the best he had seen …”
State Landcare Conference
“We have been thinking of you all the time, and meaning to write to you, to say thank you for all the joy you have brought into our lives through your extraordinary and unique talents, and for sharing your warm and shining spirit with us all … You are an inspiration. It is almost impossible to express our appreciation to you for your brilliant efforts in presenting the concert so magnificently…”
“Classic Pops” concerts with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Orchestra
“The feedback on the conference has been that it was our ‘best ever’ and we truly believe that your input was responsible for us achieving this … Suppliers, agents and staff have all said ‘Where did he come from?’”
Travellers Choice, National Conference, Queensland
“Just a quick note of thanks and appreciation for your time and effort over the YMA BP2004 event. It was an absolute pleasure working with you. Your attention to details, and your boundless energy made my role, and various responsibilities so much easier.”
Yamaha Music Australia National Conference, Melbourne
“Your energy and commitment to the project was outstanding and made a huge contribution to the success of the event … Your material was terrific and certainly demonstrated a great deal of thought, originality and creativity … further enhanced by the actual delivery which was extremely professional and entertaining … You are a very talented man and it was a real pleasure to work with you …”
Magent Event Management
“… superb job … It was one of those occasions where there is only one chance to get it right and the choice of MC could make or break the evening. I was absolutely confident that you would make the evening and outstanding success – and you did! I received a number of accolades after the evening, but in essence my best decision was to contract you and most certainly the evening would not have been the spectacular success that it was without your humour, presence and professionalism.”
